Bridges

Kingfisher Consulting has been responsible for the design of several bridges including the unique Hulme to Manchester city centre link bridge over the Mancunian Way. This iconic structure was awarded the ICE Merit Award for an outstanding example of a civil engineering project.

Other bridges have included vehicular river crossings for industrial developments, timber footbridges and inspection and strengthening works for historic masonry bridges for the National Trust.

We have state-of-the-art computer software including Ring 3.0 by Limitstate for analysing masonry arch bridges.

As in other disciplines, our approach is one of innovative and cost effective use of materials to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations.

Hulme Bridge, Manchester
Kingfisher Consulting was the Principal Designer of this bridge and was awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement. The bridge is unique in its form and use of materials and creates a vital link from Hulme to Manchester city centre over the Mancunian Way.
St Bertrams Bridge
Kingfisher Consulting was responsible for the design of remedial works to this medieval bridge on the Ilam Estate for the National Trust. Other arch bridge remediation for the National Trust has included several structures on the Calke Abbey Estate.
Valley Mills Access Bridge
This skewed vehicular bridge over the River Tame to the Valley Mills commercial estate is of reinforced concrete construction and was built under difficult live river conditions.
